No Blame, Just Solutions: Surprise Visit by Gov. Sol Aragones Sparks Action Plan for Dr. Jose P. Rizal District Hospital

Governor Sol Aragones paid a surprise visit to the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial District Hospital as part of her ongoing initiative to personally assess the condition of public health facilities in Laguna. During her inspection, she expressed dismay at the hospital’s condition, likening it to a marketplace, but refrained from blaming newly appointed Hospital Director Dr. Peter Uy.

Accompanied by Dr. Uy and Provincial Health Officer-in-Charge Dr. Odilon Inoncillo, Gov. Aragones toured the hospital's second floor and engaged directly with healthcare workers, urging them to voice their concerns. “If you don’t tell me the problems, it’ll be hard for me to help you,” she said, emphasizing the importance of open communication in finding effective solutions.

The governor outlined immediate improvements, including the construction of a proper waiting area for patient watchers, upgrades to the OB-Gyne facilities, and the addition of beds to avoid patient overcrowding. She also prioritized floor repairs for safety and pledged to expand the Emergency Room and eventually transform the hospital into a four-story facility.

The hospital management requested 100 additional adult beds and more pediatric beds, which were added to the province’s procurement list. Gov. Aragones assured the public that sufficient funding is available and stressed the need for proper use of public funds to benefit the underprivileged.

Reiterating her leadership approach, she stated, “No more finger-pointing. I’m more interested in the solutions we can work on together.” Her goal remains clear: to ensure that Laguna’s public hospitals provide quality care through improved facilities and professional service.
